What do you think of this monitor/HDTV?

The review doesn’t like that there’s only one HDMI port and no S-video port. Honestly I have no idea what an s-video port is and why it’s important, and I don’t know why one HDMI could be an issue. If anyone has light to shed, that would be great.
If I get this, I would use it mostly to pick up HD signals to watch TV and occasionally hook up my laptop to either play DVDs or do computer work. I do have a standalone DVD player, but it’s old. It has an s-video hook-up (I guess that’s what they’re talking about), but it also has a component video hook-up, as does this Samsung monitor. And what is the HDMI port for? Is that where my laptop hooks up?

And I don’t plan on getting a blu ray player either.
S-video is an obsolete, low-definition-only analog connection that cannot display resolutions higher than 800×600, and the image quality is terrible. You don’t want to use S-video if other better-quality connections like YPbPr Component or HDMI are available.
Component is better than S-video. It is an analog connection that uses three separate channels to transmit video, for better clarity (Y, Pb, and Pr, which are red, green and blue RCA Jacks). It is not as good as computer connections like VGA (which uses 5 analog channels) or DVI / HDMI (which are digital).
DVI / HDMI is the best connection available. It transmits the video digitally, in binary code (in a stream of 0′s and 1′s.). It gives the clearest image. If your laptop has an HDMI jack, then all you need to connect it to your HDTV to use it as a monitor is an HDMI cable.
