The new BlackBerry Bold 9700 is for me as an ambiguous thing. On one hand it is of course a very well-equipped smartphone with one, as usual at RIM, excellent full QWERTY keyboard, and all necessary gadgets, which should have a modern machine (3G, WLAN, Bluetooth, HSDPA, GPS, expandability with MicroSD cards etc.).

About (but paid) push mail service from RIM, we do not have to discuss, which is still excellent, but so limited to do with this model was. On the positive side there is also a truly outstanding display, which is a class by itself. The 3.2-megapixel camera is an improvement compared to the old Bold 9000 is, at best, however, still mean and certainly no real reason to buy for someone. For a primarily be looked as a business smartphone device, but this is not really crucial, even if today we certainly can easily install a 5MP camera.

Well I also like the battery power of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, which represents a real improvement to its predecessor. Now, several days without charge under normal use no problem. A criticism on the previous model was the trackball, the polluted over the months and years and therefore had to be changed frequently, for which you had taken away most of the equipment, they wanted to lose the warranty.

In this sense, the new trackpad is itself a great thing, because here is sure to pollute anything and are also needed to use any noises are (compared to the ‘noisy’ Scroll noise when Bold 9000) The last good points I would like to emphasize very good to very good voice and the opportunity, the BlackBerry to now really excellent sync on your Mac, what some would perhaps be interesting, as has been shown to BlackBerry handhelds still a problem and you had to resort to third-party solutions .

One may wonder why there are all the positive points, only three stars for the device from me? There are several reasons.

Let us first briefly to the (subjectively) neutral points. The display is minimal compared to the old Bold become less (probably one reason why the battery life has improved). The device as such has become much smaller and handier, but has not also mean that the keys of the keyboards have become noticeably smaller – this one should perhaps first try, whether for oneself is a problem or not. For very large hands could affect the already negative. I personally like the size of the old Bold even more (myself have fairly large hands and I therefore had to also change), but that is now generally no real point of criticism, since the size in terms of handling, too has quite positive.

The prints come from the often poor processing of the new BlackBerry Bold 9700th I’m normally not nitpicking human, but I had to exchange the device several times because it always gave workmanship. And this is certainly not to me, because you can find on this topic, in relevant discussions and some BlackBerry Forums complaints. I read again and again that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 has been developed in Germany, which of course sounds good at first. Production is the smartphone, however, in Hungary, Mexico and Canada. All my previous device from Amazon came from Hungary – and most were not handled well. It was only after some exchange goods I actually caught one with which I am quite satisfied. However, it is simply not to be exchanged only several times in order to get such a “perfect” device – especially in this price category, and with the claim that the phone should be a high-quality companion for the business sector. Perhaps these are also children’s diseases, as the device after all is quite recent, but they are still very angry.

One of the most acute deficiencies in the beginning was not just a built-in trackpad, which has cracked so well in the operation. This seems to have been largely resolved in the very devices delivered to date. In addition, and this is perhaps the biggest problem was with all devices I had previously (and those were a few) of silver (plastic) frame and let loose after a while, push in some places without a great deal for you had to use force (along with unsightly creaking noises). Furthermore, the gaps on the instrument is not always optimal, which may mean that the backlight shines through, which looks not just beautiful and what is not to be. When two devices also the key mat was installed less than optimal, so that the pressure point was not good and some keys have cracked, too.

All this may perhaps sound pedantic, but I find that a device to the 450 € are not defects of this size can not afford. Because we have first a well-made device caught (and as I said the current deliveries seem a little better to be in the process) then the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a very good text on the functions and possibilities here and then also very least 4 stars worth. After my long Exchange Odyssey I am now happy with my Bold and it would not miss more, despite everything.
