Performance is often only reviewed when customers complain or something goes
Wrong, e.g. an accident occurs or a product does not meet quality guidelines. Can you see any problems with this approach to performance appraisals?
the main problem is that the employer cannot tell whether the employee is supposed to eb doing what he or she is doing as there is no way to compare his a/her actual performance with what he/she is expected to do. which is stated in the job descriptions.
Secondly, reviews by customers are a reactive approach. and instead of trying to prevent the problems, the employer is letting them happen and only then does he/she review performance. The main problem with this is that it affects the employee such as his motivation as he/she may not be confident as to how to perform the job since no previous feedback was provided by the employer.
