Installing a new CPU! (AMD Athlon 64 X2)?

So i’m shopping for a new computer processor when i came across a sweet AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6Hz processor. It looked fine, and for a good price, so I compared it to mine (AMD Athlon 64 3800+). Everything was fine, until I came across a CNET Review.

Somewhere in the review, the “Bad” parts of the product stated you need a new motherboard. I didnt think this was right, because I checked my processor and its a Socket AM2. just like the new processor I’m willing to buy.

Is there really a problem and I need a new motherboard to support the new processor? Sure it’s a dual core, but isnt it available on the same socket as a normal processor?

Wikipedia shows the available processor on Socket AM2:

Processors Athlon 64
Athlon 64 X2
Athlon 64 FX
Opteron
Sempron
Phenom

So is this right? Can I buy this new processor and not be screwed over?

Yes it should work fine. The review you read was probably referring to people that owned Socket 939 motherboards. Socket 939 was AMD’s previous socket and AM2 processors are incompatible with it.
