Product Reviews Janome Sewing Machines
Janome or Brothers sewing machine?
I am a beginner & I am debating on what sewing machine to get between the Janome http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Janome-11574-Heavy-duty-Sewing-Machine-Refurbished/3644290/product.html or the Brother http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Brother-CE4000-Heavy-duty-Sewing-Machine-Refurbished/3485980/product.html
I like the Janome bc I hear its an amazing brand & the reviews say it is really heavy duty! But I saw someone review it & said that there is no speed control or needle up-down. This is going to be my only machine & I wanted to know if those features are important enough to look into another machine. I also wanted to know what is twin needle sewing? The Brother offers that but the Janome doesnt.
If your going to answer PLEASE just answer the question I do not want alternatives, I want one of these machines & I have to get it in the next few days Thanks!
The Janome is the better choice. Brother has become very popular in recent years because of their cross licensing agreement with Disney. If you want to embroider those cute Disney characters for the grandbaby, you must have a Brother machine.
Twin needle sewing is regular sewing with a special needle. Any machine that does a zig zag stitch will take a twin needle. You must be careful to get a twin needle that will fit through the opening in the stitch plate. There are twin needles as wide as 8.0mm but few machines will accommodate those. Be very careful with decorative stitches and twin needles. If your machine has a 5.0mm stitch width and you use a 2.0mm double needle, the maximum stitch width that’s safe is 1.5mm
Some machines have a speed control lever on the head. Most of us just do it the old fashioned way–we adjust how hard we push down on the foot control. Needle up/needle down is a handy feature but I wouldn’t let that one feature dictate my choice.
Janome also makes industrial machines and their home machines are known for being sturdy. They also don’t spend a lot of time in the shop.
