What is the best scratch remover for dvds/cds/games?

I have been looking for products online and reading reviews and after reading about 15 resurfacing products , I am more confused that ever, as I have already tried cleaning them and it still runs the same, they were lightly scratched right out of the package.
but they skip, cause error reports and distort the picture speed/color.
I cant afford to accidently ruin one of them either.
So what are the best repairs kits that you have found and how do you use it and where did you buy it and how badly was the disk damaged before you fixed it.
if there is one to aviod please tell me.

tooth paste. put a little on the spots and rub it in. it will fill the scratches in so it playable again.
