Product Reviews Shotguns
I read with some interest the discussions on black powder subsititutes. Has anyone of you tried Blackhorn 209?
This is apparently a new powder on the market. After reading product reviews on both Cabela’s website (31 of them) and on Midway USA’s website (14), I am convinced that is what I will be buying from now on. It uses standard shotgun 209 primers, people testify of firing up to 50 rounds without stopping to swab out barrels, 1 1/2″ groups at 100 yards consistently with touching holes. As a newcomer to the game, I have been doing a lot of research on the substitutes and had thought that triple 7 was going to be the route to go until I stumbled on to this stuff. Yes – it is more expensive, but the kudos going for reduced time to waste between shots, easy clean up with just Hoppe’s 9 and other factors have made it sound pretty good. Midway USA is selling a 10oz bottle for $31, and Cabelas for just over $37 for the same amount. I haven’t read anything negative on this stuff yet.;
After reading your question and going to the Blackhorn 209 site: http://www.blackhorn209.com/
I’ll be shooting up the rest of the Triple Seven that I just loaded a hundred 45-120 Sharps cartridges and give Blackhorn 209 a try.
